computerized Surveillance Security camera.?
how long does the recording last in computerized surveillance cameras? i heard after a week all recording automatically deletes.. is it true? what if we want to see something from last week, does it mean getting old fashioned video tape security camera are better because we get to keep the recorded cassettes with us?
Very good question. It really depends on what type of technology the store is using. Some stores I bet still use vhs. Systems can keep data up to as long as they want on computerized systems as long as they have enough storage. Usually the window is a rolling one. I think 2 weeks is used by many places. It’s a function of how much hard drive space the company has, what video quality they are recording at. The nice thing about digital is that you can sit anywhere in the country and monitor it. If you would like a longer backup on the digital, then you could just invest in more hard drive space. On those video cassettes, what they usually do is keep them for a certain time period and then reuse them or rotate them out too. Almost like a backup system in a company’s computer. They use backup tapes and then send them offsite. After a while, you rotate the tapes out for new ones or reuse the old ones. Decide first how long you want your retention policy to be and then you can find the technology to match that.
